Twenty-five Malvern House students braved the dubious weather to make the trip to Brighton, despite the rain making it a less than ideal day for a beach trip.
The weather forecast predicted that there would be only cloud in the morning, followed by light rain in the afternoon. However, as the train pulled into Brighton Station, the rain was falling steadily. Unperturbed, teachers Ben, Lana and Brian led their umbrella-wielding students through the streets of Brighton, past Banksy's early work on the wall of the Morning Star pub, the bohemian North Laines to the Mugal-style Royal Pavilion.
After posing for photographs in the English summer weather, we walked down to the beach, where the wind and rain were 'bracing' to say the least! No trip to Brighton is complete without a trip to the famous pier, so some students and staff enjoyed a good couple of hours of light-hearted gambling, while others enjoyed the alternative shopping which the city has to offer, before a hearty roast dinner of lamb shank - the ideal rainy Sunday antidote!
Although the rain and wind made it a difficult day for a trip to the seaside, meaning that the usual beach and meandering shopping stroll were ruled out, a good time was had by all, and it was felt by some that a rainy day by the sea was a more quintessential British beach trip than if it had been sunny!
